Reno Woman Dead Following Susanville Crash

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a Reno woman tragically lost her life in a collision that took place in Susanville on Monday, December 23, 2019. Police stated that the crash only involved one vehicle and happened in a rural location on a local highway during the evening. The decedent has been identified as 28-year-old Kailee Seal, a stylist at Jensen & Co in Reno. No other people received injuries during the accident.

Crash Information

CHP says that Seal had been driving her 2004 Nissan Pathfinder heading west on State Route 44 close to the Lassen/Shasta County line near Susanville when her vehicle hit a patch of ice and snow on the highway. The SUV then slid out, causing Seal to lose control. According to police, the vehicle struck a paddle marker and overturned, rolling over some large rocks on the side of the road. One of the rocks reportedly struck the Nissan’s driver’s side door, causing major damage. After this collision, the vehicle overturned a second time, causing even more damage. The Pathfinder finally stopped next to a small tree.

Seale’s sister had been following the Pathfinder in another vehicle and contacted emergency officials immediately after the crash occurred. When responders arrive, they found that Seal was severely hurt. Tragically, she passed away at the accident scene. A passenger in her vehicle was thankfully found uninjured.

Investigation

CHP is conducting a full investigation into possible causes of the accident. However, the full report on suspected factors remains unavailable at this time. Single-vehicle accidents are liable to be caused by a variety of common factors, many of which drivers simply cannot control. These include dangerous roads, auto product defects, and more.

Fundraiser

A public fundraiser will be held for Seal at her former place of employment in Reno on Sunday, January 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 495 Morrill Avenue. A silent auction, as well as salon services, will be offered, and proceeds will go to benefit Seal’s grieving family members. Additionally, an online fundraiser to benefit her family can be found at this GoFundMe page.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents, especially those involving an overturned SUV, can be very dangerous. One of the key reasons that these accidents are so dangerous is that vehicle roofs are often not able to withstand an impact, leaving occupants vulnerable to major injuries. When this happens, the manufacturer of the vehicle may be considered negligent and held responsible for damages.

Calling an Attorney

It’s not possible to ever replace the presence of a loved one. However, families can get financial security during a tragic time by filing a wrongful death claim and obtaining compensation from insurers and/or negligent parties. Payments obtained through wrongful death claims can help families pay for funeral costs, lost income, and medical expenses as well as damages related to your personal suffering. To learn more about wrongful death claims, it’s always best to speak personally with an experienced attorney. Because most lawyers will offer you advice over the phone for free, there’s nothing to lose by reaching out for the help your family deserves.
