Suisun Accident Stats

I’m Ed Smith, a Suisun car accident lawyer. While the city of Suisun recently passed roadway improvement measures to reduce the amount of dangerous car accidents that occur in the city, numerous accidents have happened in Suisun over the last seven years. This blog will include information about accidents in Suisun that may benefit those who frequently drive on the city’s roadways.

Accidents Overview

In the seven-year period beginning in January 2010 and ending in December 2016, the city of Suisun was the site of 200 motor vehicle accidents resulting in injuries while the whole of Solano County saw a total of 12,324 injury crashes. This means that Suisun is around 80 percent fewer vehicle accidents per capita than Solano County in its entirety.

Of the 200 accidents in Suisun, 23 were pedestrian collisions, 15 involved bicycles, 14 were motorcycle accidents, and the remaining 148 accidents involved only regular passenger vehicles or large trucks.

Additionally, 87 of the 200 accidents occurred on a state highway within city limits rather than a city street. This means that 43.5 percent of Suisun’s accidents leading to injury occurred on Highway 12.

Accidents by Severity

Most of the injury collisions that have occurred in Suisun have been accidents which only involve a complaint of pain from one or more individuals involved in a crash. With 129 complaint-of-pain injuries, this category of accidents made up 64.50 percent of all traumatic collisions in the city.

It is important to remember that, while injuries may not seem serious at the time of an accident, initial pain after a car accident can indicate that something in your body is damaged. This damage may lead to complications and secondary injuries if not treated by a medical professional.

After complaints of pain, the most common types of injuries caused in accidents in Suisun were:

  • Non-sever visible injuries (26%)
  • Visible severe injuries (5%)
  • Fatal injuries (4%)

Severity in Comparison

In comparison with Solano County, injuries sustained in Suisun vehicle collisions tend to be more severe. Suisun’s rate of fatal injuries compared to other types of injuries sustained in accidents is more than double that of Solano County

Collision Violation

Traffic laws exist to keep the roadways safe. When drivers violate these laws, they significantly increase the risk of causing traumatic collisions. In Suisun, the traumatic vehicle accidents caused by violations have been most frequently caused by motorists driving over the speed limit.

Speeding violations constituted 35 percent of Suisun’s traffic violations resulting in injuries with a total of 76 incidents related to speeding. After speeding, the most dangerous violations were improper turning at 12 percent of injury-related violations, right-of-way violations at 10.5 percent, and DUI at 8 percent.
