Stockton Pedestrian Accident Injures Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton personal injury lawyer. A woman was walking along the sidewalk in Stockton on the evening of Saturday, June 10, 2017, when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle. As a result of this tragic pedestrian accident, the woman suffered traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A woman was walking on the sidewalk along Main Street in the vicinity of Oro Avenue at about 11:40 pm. A burgundy Jaguar was traveling westbound along Main Street when it suddenly veered off the road and drove up onto the sidewalk. The Jaguar struck a street sign and then tragically hit the woman before it came to a rest after also taking out a public telephone booth. The Jaguar’s driver and three passengers exited the vehicle, pushed the car off the telephone booth and took off in the car. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the driver fled the scene after colliding with the woman.

Was the Woman Injured?

Sadly, the woman suffered cuts on her legs and arms as a result of the pedestrian accident. The woman was taken to the San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment.

Similar Stockton Pedestrian Accident

A similar pedestrian accident took place in southeast Stockton on May 4, 2017. An elderly woman was walking along Eighth Street near Mariposa Road at about 1:45 pm when she were struck by a vehicle. It is unfathomable that the motorist attempted to flee the scene after the collision, leaving the victim to suffer fatal injuries. The driver was later detained and charged for felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to a 2015 Pedestrian Accident Statistic Report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 5,376 pedestrians were killed in crashes with motor vehicles. Pedestrian fatalities accounted for approximately 15% out of the total deaths for that year alone. Alcohol was involved in 48% of traffic collisions that fatally injured pedestrians. About 19% of pedestrian deaths involved hit-and-run drivers. The NHTSA advises drivers to keep an eye for pedestrians everywhere, never drink under the influence of alcohol or drugs and always follow the posted speed limit.
