Stockton Pallet Fire

Large plumes of smoke rose into the air above Stockton on the evening of May 25 as firefighters battled a pallet fire that spread to a warehouse and then to a residential area. My sympathy and prayers are with those who were injured and displaced due to this devastating accident.

What Happened?

The four-alarm fire began around 5:00 in the afternoon near a warehouse on B Street and Weber Avenue. According to a fireman with the Stockton Fire Department, all available firefighters and three strike teams were called to the scene to battle the rapidly expanding blaze. The fire chief reported that the blaze escalated quickly due to the wind it generated. The area was evacuated because of the fire spreading and danger to local residents.

Five homes and two commercial properties were involved. Of the five homes, two were reported lost due to the fire. One woman was transported to a burn center. According to a neighbor, she could not leave her house in time. One area family said they had repeatedly called to report code violations at the warehouse and pallet yard. Weber Street has been closed due to the extensive damage, and the Red Cross is helping the displaced people from the neighborhood.

Trauma and Injuries Caused by a Fire

Fires can cause innocent people to lose everything they have worked for, including priceless mementos and family photos. They can also wreak severe emotional damage, such as symptoms of PTSD, and physical damage, such as burns and injuries from falling debris.

Although nothing will replace those important mementos, financial compensation can be sought through a personal injury lawsuit to recover financial damages for the loss and your injuries. Because personal injury is based on the negligence of another individual or entity, knowing how to obtain the correct type of fire report and documentary evidence is essential. An experienced Stockton burn injury lawyer can help get the fair compensation needed for a burn or fire-loss victim to recover and get on with their life.

Responsibility Business Owners Have to Maintain a Safe Environment

Business owners have a responsibility to maintain a safe workplace environment. This includes making sure that dangerous conditions are eliminated. In some cases, mainly when a business is adjacent to a residential area, the persistence of such conditions could negatively impact the community. When this happens, homeowners whose property was harmed may recover damages from the negligent party.

Types of Injuries

First to fourth-degree burns and smoke inhalation are serious injuries that someone can suffer when in a fire. Such injuries require extended hospitalization, nursing care, and special nutrition to promote healing since the human body requires a much higher intake of calories while it repairs itself. In more severe cases, reconstruction and extended care may be required.
