Fleeing Driver Accident at Auburn Folsom Road Intersection Injures Rider

At an intersection, a Kawasaki sports bike rider was struck by a fleeing driver in a Granite Bay crash on August 18. The collision occurred at the Auburn Folsom Road intersection with Eureka Road around 2:00 in the afternoon. The accident blocked the slow lane, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities Actively Seeking Fleeing Driver in Injury Accident

The Folsom Police Department was quickly notified to be on the lookout for the hit-and-run driver. A tow truck was called to remove the sports bike. No information was provided on the extent of injuries the rider suffered. An investigation is underway by CHP traffic officers to determine how the accident happened and to locate the driver.

Accidents Caused by Negligent Drivers

There are many reasons a motorist might strike a bicyclist, pedestrian or sports bike rider. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Failure to yield
  • Speeding
  • Driving under the influence
  • Aggressive driving
  • Poor visibility due to overgrown vegetation at the intersection
  • Failure to obey traffic laws such as speeding and reckless driving

Locating the Hit-and-Run Driver

An injury lawyer has the experience and resources to search for and find a fleeing driver in many cases. They work to locate the driver by using techniques such as checking surveillance cameras, interviewing witnesses and searching the site for metal or paint that can pinpoint the make and model. In addition, investigators can perform accident reconstruction and search for the type of vehicle, when it is identified, at local body shops to determine the owner.

What Types of Damages Are Recoverable?

A rider injured by a negligent motorist may be able to recover the following compensation if the hit-and-run driver is located, such as:

  • Medical: As a result of their injuries, the rider may require medical treatment, hospitalization, rehabilitation, and ongoing care and therapy.
  • Income: A rider may be entitled to compensation for lost income if they are unable to work due to their injuries.
  • Pain and suffering: As a result of the accident and injuries, the injured person has suffered physical and emotional pain and suffering, which can be compensated.
  • Enjoyment of life: An injured rider may be entitled to recover damages for loss of enjoyment of life if their injuries prevent them from enjoying the activities they once did.
  • Scarring and disfigurement: Compensation can be sought if scarring or disfigurement occurs because of the accident involving the fleeing driver.
  • Punitive damages: When a negligent driver acts recklessly or willfully, punitive damages may be awarded by the court.
