Single-Vehicle Crash on Madison Avenue Splits Car in Half

A speeding driver miraculously survived an accident in Fair Oaks when their vehicle struck a tree that split their car into two pieces. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened around 11:00 a.m. along eastbound Madison Avenue close to Winding Oaks Drive when the motorist lost control of the vehicle and started swerving. The vehicle, an Infiniti, hit a tree and broke in half.

Only a Minor Injury Reported in Crash Involving Speeding Driver

Although the front section of the Infiniti remained at the center median, the rear part continued along Madison Avenue striking a Subaru in the westbound lanes. The only injury reported in the collision was a minor one that occurred to the Infiniti’s driver, according to the CHP. In addition, a spokesperson for the CHP said the outcome could have caused fatal injuries because the driver was speeding and that motorists should be cognizant of the dangers, especially during rainy conditions.

Traffic Accidents Caused by a Speeding Driver

In the above accident, all parties involved were fortunate enough to avoid suffering any serious injuries. However, this is often not the case. Speeding, racing, or going too fast for weather conditions causes many accidents every year.

Speeding gives the driver less time to process information and takes longer for the motorist to react as well as increases the distance needed to stop the vehicle. In addition, the speeding driver is more likely to lose control of their vehicle. This reduces the driver’s ability to avoid a collision.

Suffering More Serious Injuries Due to a Speeding Vehicle

Those whose vehicles are struck by a speeder are more likely to suffer serious injuries, and the faster the car/truck is going, the more devastating the trauma they may experience. The most common injuries suffered by those involved in an accident with a speeding driver include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries: Excessive speed can end up crushing another vehicle, which can result in TBIs from concussions to brain hemorrhages and skull fractures.
  • Serious bone fractures: Those involved in an accident with a speeding driver may experience multiple bone fractures, which can require surgical repair and a long recuperative period. More serious fractures may require pins or plates to repair and a longer than usual time to heal.
  • Burns: A speeding driver may increase the risk of one or both vehicles catching on fire, which can result in devastating burn injuries requiring a long period of hospitalization and resultant scarring and disfigurement.
  • Spinal cord trauma: A traumatic spinal cord injury caused by a speeding driver can cause a crush injury as well as dislocation or compression of the vertebrae, resulting in temporary or permanent paralysis. The extent of the paralysis is dependent on the location where the damage occurred.

A serious injury can cause extensive time off work, high medical expenses, and the pain and suffering that accompanies your trauma.
