Driver Remains at Scene of South Sacramento Crash

One of the pedestrians was a wheelchair user. The male pedestrian died, and medics transported the injured woman to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities did not release information on which pedestrian was using the wheelchair. The pickup driver remained at the accident scene and cooperated with police in their investigation.

Injuries and Fatalities Caused by Negligence

When a driver is negligent and causes injuries or a fatality to pedestrians, the injured party or family may place a claim to recover compensation. An accident lawyer can review your case to see whether a claim is possible, recover the evidence to support the claim and conduct negotiations with the at-fault driver’s insurance company. If an agreement cannot be reached with the insurance company, the lawyer can use the gathered evidence to present the case in civil court. Because accident lawyers work on a contingency basis, the injured person or family pays nothing unless their case is settled successfully.

Compensation Types in a Personal Injury Lawsuit

A personal injury lawsuit in a South Sacramento crash can yield the following compensation:

  • Medical expenses: Claimants can seek reimbursement for all of their medical costs caused by the accident. These include ambulances, hospitals, doctors’ bills, surgeries, and rehabilitation.
  • Wages: Many people who suffer injuries in a South Sacramento crash spend an extended period in the hospital and recovering. As a result, they lose wages they would have earned otherwise. Those wages are recoverable, including compensation for the benefits they lost.
  • Pain and suffering: Compensation for physical and emotional pain and suffering is recoverable, including the cost of treatment for psychological symptoms.

Compensation Types in a California Wrongful Death Lawsuit

In California, a lawsuit for wrongful death can yield compensation across several categories, notably:

  • Funeral and burial costs: Claimants can seek reimbursement for funeral and burial services expenses.
  • Financial support: Compensation for the deceased’s expected earnings, including wages up until retirement, as well as pension and insurance benefits, is claimable.
  • Non-economic damages: The bereaved may pursue claims for the loss of guidance, advice, companionship, protection, and moral support that the deceased would have provided.
  • Loss of consortium: The surviving spouse or partner may seek damages for loss of consortium, reflecting the loss of companionship and support.
  • Household contributions: If the deceased contributed services to the household, the value of these services can also be claimed.
