South Lake Tahoe Multi-Vehicle Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe car accident lawyer. On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, a three-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 89 in the Grass Lake area.
What Happened?
Reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 89 came flooding into the California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch center shortly before 4:30 p.m. early Wednesday evening. When first responders arrived on scene they discovered the accident involved 3 vehicles. According to witness statements, a driver in a Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway when for unknown reasons he veered into the right shoulder. The driver attempted to correct his positioning on the road but drifted into oncoming traffic. His pickup truck then hit a larger Chevy pick-up truck head on. The force of the collision sent the Ford into a Subaru that was also traveling southbound at the time the accident took place.
Were There Injuries?
Yes. When emergency crews arrived on scene they discovered victims with traumatic injuries as a result of this collision. Both the driver and a passenger in the Subaru were transported to Barton Hospital. A minor child was also in the Subaru at the time of the collision and was uninjured. The driver of the larger Chevy pickup truck did not request medical attention at the scene. The driver of the Ford suffered major injuries and passed away at the scene of the accident.
Highway Closures and Investigation
Highway 89 was shut down for a short time following this tragic accident. It is unclear yet if distracted driving, driving under the influence or possibly a mechanical failure may have contributed to this accident.
