Sonora Teenager Killed in Car Crash on SR-108
A teenager from Sonora was killed in a car crash on SR-108 in Tuolumne County on the night of Monday, September 20, 2021. The fatal auto accident occurred on westbound State Route 108 in the vicinity of Koinonia Court in the Mi Wuk Village area and involved one vehicle.
Details on the SR-108 Car Crash That Claimed the Life of a Sonora Teenager
A 17-year-old Soulsbyville boy was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westbound on State Route 108 when he approached a curve in the roadway. For unknown reasons, the Toyota driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, and the pickup truck veered off the highway where it collided with an embankment.
The Toyota overturned, causing the passenger, a 19-year-old Sonora man, to be ejected from the vehicle. The pickup truck came to a rest blocking both westbound and eastbound lanes of Highway 108. The vehicle was found lying on its roof by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responding to the scene. Emergency crews pronounced the passenger deceased at the scene of the single-vehicle accident. A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of the decedent’s family to help cover expenses for his celebration of life.
Medical personnel transported the Toyota driver via air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of injuries described as minor. After being released from hospitalization, the motorist was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence (DUI) and was booked into Mother Lode Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Additional information on the incident has not yet been released by CHP traffic officers.
