Six Injured in Truck Accident on SR-99

Six people were injured, including a family of five, in a truck accident on SR-99 in the Modesto area on the morning of Saturday, July 16, 2022. The big rig crash took place shortly after 5:00 a.m. on southbound State Route 99 near the Carpenter Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Details on the Truck Accident on SR-99 That Left Six Injured

A preliminary report by authorities revealed that a box truck was rear-ended by a big rig. The impact from the initial collision propelled the box truck in a southeast direction, where it overturned and blocked the southbound lanes of Highway 99. Shortly after the initial crash, a Buick Enclave was involved in a wreck with the box truck that overturned on the roadway.

The Buick driver and the passenger in the front seat, described as a husband and wife, both 42 years old and from Stockton, sustained injuries described as moderate. The woman suffered major lacerations to the arms and head, CHP traffic officers said.

Three children were in the rear seat, ages 16, 8, and 5. The 16-year-old sustained moderate injuries, while the youngest children suffered minor injuries. The box truck driver, a man from Sacramento, also sustained moderate injuries. A total of six patients were transported to area hospitals for treatment. An update regarding their conditions was not immediately available.

Things to Know About Commercial Truck Accident Cases

Drivers in Modesto must share the road with big rigs and other commercial vehicles. Whether it is at night or during rush hour, box trucks, tractor-trailers, and other commercial vehicles are transporting materials and goods to different locations. While large commercial trucks may be a common sight on the road, these vehicles have the potential to result in serious injuries or even death when they are involved in crashes with passenger vehicles. Some of the most common reasons for truck crashes include speeding, driving under the influence (DUI), distracted driving, fatigued driving from violation of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, and more.

When an individual has been injured in a big rig crash, there are steps that must be taken to protect their rights and best interests. This includes documenting information about the incident, including the insurance and contact information for the truck driver and trucking company, pictures of the aftermath of the crash and physical injuries, and contact information for eyewitnesses. Remember that a letter of preservation of evidence must be sent to the trucking company immediately after a crash, or evidence may be destroyed or lost over time.

It is essential to seek medical treatment immediately after a truck accident, so there is documentation linking reported injuries and the crash. The last thing anyone would want to hear from the insurance company or defense counsel is that the reported injuries were unrelated to the incident because of the delay in medical treatment and resulted from another cause.
