Single Vehicle Accident Injures Two Near Merced County

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced car accident lawyer. A single-vehicle accident occurred in Merced County on the afternoon of Monday, April 16, 2018. Unfortunately, two parties suffered injuries in the collision. A Toyota Tundra was hauling a trailer along Highway 152 in the vicinity of Dale Road at approximately 2:12 pm. For unknown reasons, the Toyota driver crashed the vehicle. Emergency crews were called to the scene to render immediate aid to the injured parties.

Nature of Injuries

The driver of the Toyota was transported via air ambulance to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of head trauma and neck injuries. A female passenger in the Toyota also suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital in Los Banos. The extent of their injuries is unknown as officials have not yet released these details to the public.

What Caused the Accident?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has not yet decided a cause of the car accident due to the ongoing investigation. A traffic collision report by CHP typically takes one to two weeks to be processed.

Car Accidents and Injuries

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated in a 2015 report that approximately 2.44 million individuals suffered traumatic injuries from traffic accidents. This accounted for a 4.5 percent increase over the previous year. The common types of injuries sustained in a car accident include the following:

  • Chest Trauma: In the event of a traffic accident, an individual’s chest may be pushed into the steering wheel with considerable force. This can cause a serious injury. Even if an airbag deploys and injury can occur to the chest.
  • Soft Tissue Injuries: Often seen with low-impact accidents. This type of injury can occur when the ligaments, tendons, and muscles are injured. Soft tissue injuries can be painful for weeks or months and can lead to myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic inflammation of the fascia.
  • Psychological Injury: Trauma from a car accident can result in psychological injury which often requires treatment by an expert.
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): These injuries are commonly caused by car accidents, sports injuries and slip and fall accidents. Symptoms of a TBI may not present themselves right away after a traumatic event. Some symptoms that may arise at a later time include dizziness, slurred speech, headaches, nausea, changes in sleeping patterns and memory problems.

Suffering any type of injury following an accident is devastating, especially when compounded by lost wages and mounting medical bills. If you or someone you love has experienced this, it is crucial to contact a seasoned personal injury attorney in Merced. A lawyer with years of experience can secure your right to fair compensation for resulting damages.
