Tractor-Trailer Collides With Walnut Sweeper on Oswald Road
A semi-truck collision occurred in a rural area east of Yuba City on September 28, resulting in a major injury. The crash happened along Oswald Road just southeast of South George Washington Boulevard around 7:28 a.m. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident involved a collision between a semi-truck and a walnut sweeper. A walnut sweeper is a tractor-like machine used to pick up nuts from the ground.
Major Injury Reported in Semi-Truck Collision
The roadway was partially blocked by the crash. Fire department emergency responders were called to the scene where they determined major injuries had occurred in at least one person. That patient was transported to a hospital. The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
Slower Moving Vehicles
Slower moving vehicles on rural roads can easily be involved in a semi-truck collision or crash with a passenger car. This happens because hills and curves in the roadway may make these slow-moving vehicles less apparent until it is too late for a driver going the speed limit to stop before a crash occurs. Slow-moving vehicles are generally those that move at under 25 mph, such as the following:
- Construction equipment
- Additional farm equipment such as balers, planters, combines, and others
- Horse-drawn vehicles
If a semi-truck collision occurs because the trucker was negligent, you may be able to place a claim to recover compensation. In some cases, the company that employs the trucker might be liable for your injuries also. Some of the ways in which negligence by a trucker causes a semi-truck collision include the following:
- Speeding by a trucker is a common cause of accidents. There is a slight delay when the driver hits the brakes, and they start to slow down the big rig. In some instances, this is enough to cause a collision. The driver may have been pushed by the employer to make faster time.
- Distracted driving occurs with truck drivers just as it does with motorists in passenger vehicles. Whether talking with their dispatch, texting or eating while driving, anything that takes the trucker’s focus from the road can lead to a semi-truck collision.
- Fatigue is common in truck drivers because they spend long hours on the road. If the driver didn’t take their required breaks or is driving longer than mandated hours, they can end up causing a serious accident.
How Your Injury Lawyer Helps You Recover the Compensation You Deserve
Because of the complexity of truck accidents and having to deal with their insurance carriers, retaining an accident attorney to determine the cause can help. The attorney can determine why the accident happened and if the driver and/or employer were at fault for your injuries. They can also calculate your medical costs, lost wages and what you should receive for pain and suffering. In this way, you can concentrate on healing by knowing your case is in good hands.
