Sacramento's Most Common Bicycle Accident Locations

Sacramento’s Most Common Bicycle Accident Locations

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Bicycle Accident Lawyer. Did you know that each workday, more than 4,000 residents gear up and ride their bicycle to their place of business? It’s true. There are a multitude of others residing in Sacramento that use their bikes to make their way to the store, park or the library. This makes Sacramento one of California’s great cycling cities.

The Down Side of Our Great Cycling City

The down side is that by having so many bikes on the road it creates some pressure between cars and bicyclists.

During the past 15 years, approximately 3,200 bicyclists were seriously hurt after collisions with motor vehicles on our Sacramento streets. Moreover, we lost 38 bicyclists in fatal accidents involving a motor vehicle during the 15 year time frame. That is heartbreaking.

The purpose of this article is to give you an idea where and when these bicycle accidents are occurring.

What Time Do Bicycle Accidents Happen Most?

Bicycle accidents resulting in an injury occurred most often between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and also between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. It is plain to see and realize that these time frames are commute time. With the high frequency of accidents during the commute time, one way to reduce our chances of being injured while riding to and from work would be to adjust our work hours a bit if possible. For those who are biking for leisure or errands, try to avoid riding during the peak commute hours.

What are the Worst Intersections for Bicyclists in Sacramento?

By far one of the worst intersections is Stockton Boulevard at Fruitridge Road. This location has seen 26 injured bicyclists in the past 15 years. Next we look at North B Street at 12th Street. This location serves the Loaves & Fishes community. Some 19 bicyclists have been injured there. Finally, the intersection of West El Camino at Truxel brings us to the third most dangerous location for bicyclists. At least 16 people have been injured at that location.

Sacramento’s Most Common Bicycle Accident Locations – By Neighborhood

The neighborhoods with the highest number of bike accidents resulting in a traumatic injury appear below:

  • Downtown Sacramento
  • Valley Hi
  • East Sacramento
  • Midtown

Let’s do what we can to incorporate this information into our bicycling safety regimen. Taking consistent steps on a regular basis to ensure our safety while biking in Sacramento is one helpful way to reduce severely injuring ourselves.
