Sacramento Two-Vehicle Crash Causes Major Injury

Accident on I-80 Near Norwood Avenue Involves Two Vehicles

A two-vehicle crash in Sacramento on June 3 resulted in a major injury along the Dwight David Eisenhower Highway. The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. along westbound I-80 just west of the Norwood Avenue off-ramp. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident involved a Nissan work van and an Audi sedan, which collided, forcing both vehicles off the road.

One Patient Transported to Hospital With Injuries After a Two-Vehicle Crash

One of the vehicles went down an embankment and ended up in a ditch on the east levee road. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department transported one patient to a hospital with major injuries. The CHP is investigating the two-vehicle crash to determine how it happened.

Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Crash

When you have suffered serious injuries in a traffic collision that was the other person’s fault, you have the right to claim fair compensation. Since medical costs have risen so much in the past few years and being unable to work can bring your income to a halt, consulting an injury lawyer can be a good idea. Injured parties can also recover damages for their physical, emotional and psychological trauma. Some of the types of major injuries that can occur in a two-vehicle accident include:

  • Back injuries may include sprains, strains and damage to vertebrae. A back injury can cause extensive pain and interfere with an injured person’s ability to work and enjoy life.
  • Cervical strain or sprain can cause damage to the tendons and muscles in the neck and is common in all types of traffic collisions. Most injuries of this type heal within several months, but the condition can become chronic.
  • Traumatic brain injuries may range from a concussion to trauma so severe it affects the person’s cognitive abilities. A TBI often requires extensive hospitalization and may result in coma or death.
  • Bone fractures are common occurrences in a two-vehicle crash. Some bone fractures heal in around six weeks. Other, more complicated fractures may require surgical repair and pins and plates, which can lengthen the healing time considerably.
  • Abdominal trauma can range from damage to an internal organ to bleeding, both of which can be life-threatening and require emergency surgical repair.
  • Burns occur at times in an accident and can have traumatic consequences. From specialized treatment in a burn unit to rehabilitation, the burned individual often suffers scarring and disfigurement and can require plastic surgery and skin grafts.
  • Amputation sometimes occurs due to the two-vehicle crash itself or is necessary because of crush injuries to a limb.
  • Chest trauma can include heavy bruising, cracked or broken ribs or collarbone, which can make it painful to breathe.
  • Disfigurement and scarring are common occurrences in a two-vehicle collision. In some cases, disfigurement may require plastic surgery to repair.
