Traffic Fatality Occurs at Watt Avenue Intersection

A traffic fatality occurred in Sacramento on November 12 due to a two-vehicle accident. The head-on collision between a Hyundai Sonata and a Mercedes sedan occurred along southbound Watt Avenue at Osage Avenue around 4:46 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The Sacramento County Coroner was called to the scene to declare one person who died at the accident site.

CHP Investigating Intersection Accident Traffic Fatality to Determine Cause

At least one of the vehicles was towed as evidence in the traffic fatality crash. The lanes reopened in the intersection around 6:42 a.m. The CHP is investigating what led to the collision and who is responsible.

Accidents That Result in the Death of a Loved One

If someone else’s negligence leads to the demise of a loved one, a wrongful death lawsuit may be filed by either the estate administrator or the immediate family to recover damages. This prevents the family from being financially stressed by the sudden loss of a loved one, especially if that person contributed to the household income. Many wrongful death cases have been successfully handled by my law firm over the years, alleviating the financial hardship families experience during a time of loss and grief. Areas where compensation may be recovered include the following:

  • Expenses for the funeral and burial can be recovered.
  • Income earned by the decedent can be recovered until their retirement age as well as pension and insurance benefits and others.
  • Loss of inheritance is recoverable in some instances.
  • Loss of the help the decedent provided in the household is recoverable. This includes areas such as car care, gardening, childcare, tax preparation and others because the family may now have to pay someone to perform those duties.
  • The surviving spouse may recover damages for the loss of love, consortium and affection the deceased provided.
  • The family’s children may recover compensation for the loss of parenting, nurture and affection their deceased parent provided.

Examining an Accident at an Intersection to Recover Evidence

In order to investigate an intersection traffic fatality accident, many elements must be considered. At the scene, our investigators assess the intersection’s safety. Business owners and witnesses in the area might be able to provide testimony about faulty equipment in the past that has caused intersection accidents. They also look at police reports for traffic lights and local businesses are equipped with surveillance cameras. They can be utilized to uncover driving errors and to obtain footage.

Liability can also be determined through accident reconstruction. Using computerized and pictorial models, the positions of the vehicles before and after a crash can be visualized. Our accident attorneys use all this information to build a strong wrongful death or injury case against the negligent party once it has been accumulated.
