Injury Reported in Traffic Accident Along U.S. 50

A traffic collision around 3:30 in the afternoon between two vehicles traveling on eastbound U.S. 50 near the Alhambra Triangle in Sacramento injured at least one person on June 23. The collision involved a Ford Fusion and an SUV, according to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It occurred in the slow lane of the highway just east of the 16th Street on-ramp.

Traffic Collision Being Investigated by Authorities to Determine Fault

One driver was reported as unconscious by emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department who arrived to assess injuries. They transported the patient to a nearby hospital for additional evaluation. Tow trucks were required to remove both of the vehicles. The CHP is investigating to determine which driver was at fault for the traffic collision.

Causes of Two-Vehicle Traffic Collision

When traffic is speeding along and congested, it’s easy for a collision to occur, especially if any of the drivers are negligent. Some of the reasons for these accidents are:

  • Improper lane changes: A driver who wants to change lanes is required to use their turn signal to notify other drivers, and watch for a clear space before moving over.
  • Tailgating: Driving too closely to the vehicle in front can end up causing a traffic collision because the motorist in the rear does not have enough time to stop if the one in front slows suddenly.
  • Driving in the wrong direction: A driver who enters a freeway through the exit ramp often causes a serious accident. Usually, these motorists are drunk drivers, but poor traffic signage can also cause this problem.
  • Speeding: A motorist who is speeding can lose control of their vehicle or be unable to slow in time to avoid a traffic collision.
  • Distracted driving: Texting, talking on a cell phone or other activities instead of concentrating on the road can cause a traffic collision.
  • Fatigued driving: Driving while too drowsy can cause a traffic collision. These types of accidents usually happen after dark but can occur at any time. The effects of drowsy driving has been compared to someone who is inebriated and behind the wheel of a car.
  • Poor roadway maintenance: Poor maintenance of a road such as potholes, upheavals in the pavement, and gravel or oily substances on the roadway can cause an accident. It may be possible to place a claim against the government entity in charge of maintenance, but the timeline for filing is short. Enlisting the help of an injury lawyer can ensure that paperwork is filed in a timely manner.
  • Auto defects: A defective auto part can result in a traffic accident, whether from brakes that fail or an accelerator that gets stuck to a tire that blows out. Retaining the vehicle following a traffic collision allows engineers to inspect it and determine if a defective auto product led to the accident.

Once an investigation into the cause of a traffic accident is completed, the evidence can be used by our injury attorneys to support a client’s compensation claim. Compensation can include all the medical expenses caused by the accident, wages lost from the inability to work, and the client’s pain and suffering.
