Sacramento Interstate Accident on I-80

A Sacramento interstate accident occurred in Sacramento at I-80 westbound just east of the Winters Street off-ramp on March 14, requiring an ambulance to be called for at least one person. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Nissan Rogue, Toyota Highlander, and a Volkswagen Passat were involved in the collision shortly after 9:00 in the morning. The name of the injured person has not been released, and no information was provided on his or her condition.

Traffic Delays Reported

Several lanes of the highway were blocked while CHP officers tried to sort out the scene and conduct an investigation. Because traffic is heavy at this time of day, it was reported as backed up to Longview Drive within minutes. A sign truck was set up on westbound I-80 at Madison in the center divide about 40 minutes after the crash to warn motorists.

How an Injury Lawyer Can Help

Getting in touch with a seasoned personal injury lawyer after you’ve been hurt in an accident caused by negligence can help you get needed compensation to pay medical bills, lost wages and other losses. The lawyer can advise you on whether you have a case, answer your questions and let you know what options are open to you. This may be negotiating with the insurance company in your stead or building a case to recover personal injury damages through a civil court lawsuit.

Accidents Near Highway Ramps

These are common locations for a Sacramento interstate accident as drivers prepare to enter or exit the road. Some of these accidents may be caused by:

  • Tailgating when the vehicle in front slows to either change lanes or take a ramp exit can cause a crash.
  • Speeding in an area where entrance ramps are located, and traffic coming onto the highway is trying to merge is a common location for a Sacramento interstate accident.
  • Attempting to change lanes to reach an exit ramp, and cutting off another driver to do it.
  • Texting or talking on a cell phone or other distracting behaviors that prevent the driver from paying close attention to surrounding traffic can result in a collision.
  • Sudden slowdowns or stopped traffic can be responsible for an accident.
  • Drowsy driving is another form of negligence that can lead to a Sacramento interstate accident. A drowsy driver is often not paying full attention to surrounding traffic.
  • Drunk drivers and those who are using certain medications or illegal drugs can show poor judgment and reflexes, which are needed to prevent a Sacramento interstate accident.
  • Taking the exit ramp too fast can cause the driver to lose control, especially on a curve. This can result in an off-road accident.
  • Poor roadway design can make it more dangerous for a driver to try and exit or enter a ramp area. These types of accidents come under the jurisdiction of a local or state government, which may be held responsible for collision injuries or fatalities.
