Marconi Avenue Injury Crash Involved Hit-and-Run Driver

A hit-and-run on Marconi Avenue in Sacramento left at least one person injured on December 6. The collision occurred between Howe Avenue and the Cap City Freeway around 4:38 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision involved a BMW and a Ford SUV. The reporting person’s vehicle, although drivable, was said to smell like smoke and was transported to a safe location.

Search Underway for Hit-and-Run Driver in Injury Accident

A search is being conducted by the CHP for the fleeing driver and vehicle. No information was released on the condition of those injured or whether they were taken to a hospital or treated by paramedics at the scene.

Why Drivers Flee the Scene of an Accident

Drivers may flee the scene of an accident for a variety of reasons, including fear of legal repercussions. In some cases, motorists that do not have valid driver’s licenses may be particularly hesitant to remain at the scene and risk further legal consequences if the police arrive. Additionally, fleeing drivers might leave if they are impaired, uninsured or the accident is particularly severe with substantial property damage and injuries. Regardless of these reasons, fleeing the scene of an accident has serious consequences and can lead to criminal charges such as hit-and-run.

How a Lawyer Can Identify a Fleeing Driver

Lawyers can use a variety of tactics to track down, identify and hold hit-and-run drivers responsible for the injuries they cause. In some cases, the police may already have identified a suspect, and all that remains is for the lawyer to build the case. In other cases, it may be necessary to conduct an independent investigation into the identity of the driver.

A lawyer can start the investigative process by collecting evidence from the scene of the crash. This may include photos, witness statements and physical evidence (such as broken car parts). If there are any surveillance cameras in the area, this footage may be helpful as well. The lawyer will also review police reports and any other available information about the crash to identify leads.

Placing a Claim Against the At-Fault Party’s Insurance Company

A personal injury claim may be made against the driver’s insurance company to recover damages for the injured party. With the right legal assistance, those injured by a hit-and-run driver can obtain the compensation they deserve.

Using Your Own Insurance to Cover the Cost of Injuries

If the driver cannot be located, the injured party may have the option of using their uninsured/underinsured auto accident coverage. If the injured party doesn’t have this add-on policy but another family member does, theirs can be used in its place. The rates for the insurance do not change if it is used.
