Two-Vehicle Accident on Howe Avenue Involves Fleeing Driver

A two-vehicle accident in Sacramento that caused injuries on June 4 involved a fleeing driver. The crash occurred along southbound Howe Avenue at the Hurley Way intersection around 4:26 p.m. When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a Nissan Sentra on the sidewalk and what they thought might have been the suspect vehicle at the intersection.

Authorities Seek Driver Who Fled from Two-Vehicle Accident Scene

One of the vehicles had crashed into a retaining wall. Although injuries were reportedly involved, the person who called in the collision did not want an ambulance, and two people were sitting outside the vehicle but near it. The CHP traffic investigation unit is examining the accident to determine how it occurred and is seeking the hit-and-run driver.

Identifying Hit-and-Run Drivers: How Lawyers Do It

It is common for injured parties to feel helpless and distraught following an intersection hit-and-run. You may be able to get help from an injury lawyer. By conducting diligent investigations and utilizing their legal expertise, they may be able to locate the responsible party. When the driver is located, they can negotiate for the injured party with the at-fault motorist’s insurance company or even take the case to court if necessary. The following are some ways in which a lawyer can identify a hit-and-run driver:

  • Area camera footage: The lawyer reviews surveillance footage from CCTV cameras or other sources to identify the missing vehicle and possibly get footage of the fleeing driver.
  • Witnesses to the collision: An intersection hit-and-run driver’s identity can sometimes be determined by interviewing witnesses or hearing rumors from those in the neighborhood. Lawyers are trained in interviewing techniques that allow them to obtain accurate details from those who were involved in the two-vehicle accident and witnesses.
  • Accident reconstruction: By reconstructing the two-vehicle accident, the lawyer can determine the positioning of the vehicles and often which driver was at fault.
  • Insurance: Lawyers may be able to trace the responsible party by reviewing insurance records and contacting companies that cover drivers in the area.
  • Social media activity: Sometimes, people brag about getting away with a hit-and-run or post about their involvement in an accident on social media. This activity can be investigated by a lawyer and used against drivers who committed such crimes.

Covering Accident Injuries With Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance

If you’re involved in an accident with a hit-and-run driver who cannot be located, you need uninsured/underinsured insurance. If the other driver is located and has insufficient coverage for your medical bills and other expenses, underinsured motorist coverage can help fill the gap between what they pay and what you need. The policy of a family member who has this coverage can be used instead if you don’t have it. Insurance rates remain the same.
