Sacramento FedEx Truck and Motorcycle Accident Injures Biker

An accident at 8:30 in the morning on French Road south of Florin Road in Sacramento between a motorcycle and a FedEx truck resulted in injury to the bike rider on August 24. The motorcyclist was heading north when the biker was hit by a FedEx truck. According to authorities, the motorcycle was moved to the side of the road to help ease the traffic situation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) called for a tow truck to remove the motorcycle. The nature of the motorcyclist’s injuries have not yet been described, however, the injured party was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the FedEx truck remained at the scene.

What a Motorcycle Accident Injury Attorney Can Do for You

We are passionate about helping people who are injured by reckless drivers. This includes FedEx truck drivers. Even a trained driver can fail to follow the rules of the road and hurt others. This is especially true in a motorcycle accident. A biker has little protection and is often seriously injured when colliding with a larger vehicle. Our firm sends an investigative team to the scene of the accident to scour the area for evidence. We do this by interviewing witnesses, reviewing police reports for accuracy, and obtaining videos that document the crash. Once this data is accumulated, we turn it over to our lawyers. They use it to build a strong case against the negligent party, which can be used to negotiate a fair settlement or present a good case for trial.

FedEx Truck Accidents

In 2017, FedEx truck drivers were involved in a little over 1,700 collisions that resulted in 41 fatalities and 575 injuries. Compared to five years before these collisions occurred, the number of accidents was 254 percent less. Since 1973, FedEx has prided itself on the speedy delivery of packages, documents, and other cargo. However, in order to do that, drivers are often pressured into ignoring the rules of the road and possibly driving in a reckless manner. In order to meet the demands made on them, drivers may indulge in the use of amphetamines and other stimulants. In addition, drivers may be fatigued due to the number of work hours they put in and even fall asleep at the wheel.

Other Causes of FedEx Truck Accidents

Some of the other reasons for a FedEx truck accident are:

  • Lack of maintenance: Truck drivers and the company that employs them must make maintenance priority number one. Improper maintenance could result in a truck fire, a tire blowout, or other problems. In addition, the company must be on alert for any defects found in their trucks. If lack of maintenance or defects cause an accident, an attorney can file a lawsuit against the company or the truck’s manufacturer with a product liability claim.
  • Conspicuity: Trucks are often not able to be seen at night due to their size and lack of lights. The vehicles must be outfitted with reflective devices that enable a driver to understand they are there. Failure to do this can result in a claim against the company.
  • Cargo safety: It is imperative that the driver load cargo carefully and tie it down so it does not fall onto the road. In addition, if the cargo is unstable, it is more difficult for the driver to maintain control.
