Yorktown Avenue Accident in Sacramento Results in Minor Injuries to Two People

Minor injuries were reported in an accident between two vehicles at Yorktown Avenue and El Camino Avenue in Sacramento on June 26. The accident occurred around 5:30 in the afternoon, leaving one vehicle in the center divider. The collision created a traffic hazard along eastbound Yorktown Avenue near Watt Avenue. Investigators with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are working to determine fault in the crash and how it occurred.

Minor Injuries in Intersection Accidents

Minor injuries commonly occur in accidents that involve intersections, although major trauma can also be a result. However, adrenaline is flowing in humans following a traumatic shock, such as a traffic accident. It can delay symptoms of a more serious injury that can arise days to weeks later. In some injuries, symptoms appear later and worsen over time. This is one of the reasons to see a doctor or get checked out in an emergency room if you’ve been in a collision. Some injuries that can appear with delayed symptoms are:

  • Traumatic head injuries: Concussions to more serious injuries such as bleeding in the brain can occur with delayed symptoms. They can occur without a blow directly to the head. Even more minor injuries such as concussions can last for weeks and interfere with someone’s ability to work.
  • Back pain: Back injuries can range from strains and sprains to a protruding or ruptured disc or spinal cord injury. Injuries to the spine or back are often long-lasting, debilitating and cause a great deal of pain.
  • Cervical strain or sprain: This condition, often called whiplash, can cause restricted movement, headache, dizziness, memory loss, blurred vision and more. Up to half of the people who experience whiplash have symptoms that continue for one year or longer.
  • Internal bleeding: Internal bleeding can occur in the abdomen, which is a life-threatening event. Even if only minor injuries are suspected, striking against the dash or steering wheel can result in this type of injury. It can also be caused by the seat belt. Generally, major surgery is required to find the cause of the bleeding and stop it.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder: Some accidents that result in minor injuries can cause emotional and psychological harm. This can result in nightmares or sleeplessness, anxiety, avoidance, reliving the accident or depression. In some people, it can last for years and affect their quality of life. Those who have symptoms serious enough to require professional help to treat may be able to claim compensation.

Conducting an Investigation

Our investigators do a good job of collecting the evidence needed to support your claim. They go right away to the crash site because evidence can be lost once the site is cleaned up and traffic allowed to pass again. The investigators check the police report for mistakes and perform accident reconstruction. They look for videos from nearby surveillance cameras. In addition, they check for issues with road maintenance that could lead to a crash. The government entity handling maintenance can be held liable for injuries. Our lawyers use the gathered evidence to deal with the insurance company or build a strong court case.
