Fatality and Multiple Injuries Occur in Car Crash on Franklin Boulevard

A speeding vehicle on May 4 in Elk Grove ended in Sacramento with a car crash that caused a fatality and seven injuries. The collision happened at the Franklin Boulevard intersection with Calvine Road. Seven people were transported to hospitals following the accident, including four from the suspect vehicle and three from the other.

What Led to the Car Crash

Initially, officers with the Elk Grove Police Department spotted the car, which was believed to have been stolen. However, because the driver of the suspect vehicle was moving too fast, the officers stopped following it. The driver continued on to the Franklin Boulevard intersection, where a collision occurred involving another vehicle.

Accident Under Investigation

Officers with the Sacramento Police Department arrived at the scene of the car crash where the mass casualties and fatality occurred. Injuries ranged from critical to minor.

Afterward, the area around the intersection was shut down from Adalis Drive to Bassett Way as well as Franklin Boulevard to Jacinto Avenue to clear the scene, transport the injured and conduct an investigation.

The individual who died in the collision, an 18-year-old woman, was riding in the suspect vehicle, according to officials. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the woman and her family to assist with final resting arrangements and to support her 1-year-old daughter.

Compensation for Fatalities and Injuries in Accidents

In the case of an injury or death caused by a traffic accident, you may be entitled to compensation. The first step in a personal injury claim is to identify who is legally responsible for your accident in order to determine whether their negligence caused your injuries or the death of your loved one. In some instances, a third party such as negligent roadway care by a government entity or defective part by an automaker may have led to your accident. In these cases, they may be liable for damages.

Injuries Caused by a Car Crash May Be Compensated if Negligence Was Involved

Most injury or fatality claims are settled through the insurance company of the at-fault party/parties. In order to file a personal injury lawsuit, you must show negligence in the car crash by another party, which your lawyer can compile. Evidence to support a wrongful death or injury claim commonly includes accident reconstruction, witness testimony, surveillance camera footage, the police report and others. Proving financial loss caused by the car accident, such as lost wages and medical expenses is also required.

Similar processes apply when pursuing a wrongful death claim. For the family to be compensated, proof must be provided of the end-of-life expenses, wages and future earnings that were lost and of your pain and suffering.
