Rush Hour Accident in Sacramento

A Sacramento rush hour accident happened along northbound Highway 99 on March 25. It involved three vehicles and included injuries. An ambulance arrived to transport at least one individual to the hospital. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the accident occurred south of 47th street. The crash involved a utility truck, Honda HR-V, and a Toyota SUV. The incident happened around 8:30 in the morning. The CHP is investigating the car accident to determine the cause.

Rush Hour Accidents

The Sacramento area is well-known for traffic congestion. The frustration this causes for commuters can lead to aggressiveness. The number of car accidents escalates during rush hour. This is because there are more people on the road. There are ways to deal with rush hour traffic such as:

  • Flexible driving schedules: Some companies are allowing their employees to leave and arrive at different times to avoid rush hour. If this is available at your workplace, take advantage of it. The roads are safer during the non-rush hour. Making this change can help reduce accidents that cause serious injuries.
  • Leave early in the morning: It may be necessary to allow a little extra time in the morning. No one likes to get up earlier, but this can help you avoid an accident. It also lets you avoid the stress of being caught in traffic.
  • Listen to music: Playing music is one way of calming the nerves while in rush hour traffic.
  • Leave distraction behind: Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents. Some commuters eat in their vehicle on their way to work or apply makeup. This behavior may seem like a shortcut, but it can be dangerous.
  • Don’t rubberneck: When a rush hour accident occurs, many drivers go on social media to warn others. While the thought is nice, using your phone to text is dangerous and illegal. Don’t leave your car to see what happened either. This can incite another rush hour accident.
  • Call the police: If you see an accident, you can have someone in your vehicle notify police.

Many Accidents Happen During Rush Hour

Almost 50 percent of accidents happen during rush hour. Fridays are the most common day for rush hour accidents. On an hour-by-hour basis, the most accidents happened between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. One reason is that many drivers are more fatigued after a day at work. Drowsy driving is a frequent cause of car accidents. In addition, reflexes and focus may be slower. Tuesdays between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. is the time of most rush hour accidents in the morning.

Types of Accidents in Rush Hour Traffic

Many of the accidents that occur during rush hour happen at a slower speed. This is because vehicles are stopped. One of the most common types of accidents is rear end collisions. These happen when the rear driver is not paying attention to the road or speeding. This can lead to a multivehicle crash as vehicles in front and behind the collision hit one another. In such cases, it is important to have a personal injury lawyer at your side. It is challenging to determine who was responsible for the crash. Sometimes, the lead driver does not signal that he or she is stopping. While the rear driver may still be going too fast, the lead motorist bears some responsibility. In California, compensation and fault can be shared between parties.
