Douglas Boulevard Intersection Site of Two-Vehicle Crash

A two-vehicle crash in Roseville on December 14 ended up causing minor injuries. The collision happened shortly after 12:00 noon at the intersection of Douglas and Sierra College boulevards. A report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the accident involved a BMW and Mercedes SUV. The BMW ended up in the center divider, while the Mercedes blocked one lane. Minor injuries were reported in the crash. Based on traffic camera footage, the CHP held jurisdiction on investigating the collision instead of Roseville police.

Causes of a Two-Vehicle Crash at an Intersection

It may surprise you to discover that more than half of all traffic collisions occur at intersections. Because not only motor vehicles but motorcyclists, bicycle riders and pedestrians converge at intersections, it increases the risk of a collision. Add to this that all this traffic is converging in the same location at the same time, and it’s easy to understand the high rate of accidents. The following are the most common reasons for a two-vehicle crash:

  • One of the most common causes of a two-vehicle crash at an intersection is when a driver runs a red light or stop sign. In many of these cases, the driver is speeding and unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. In others, the hour is late, and traffic is more sparse, so the driver thinks it’s safe to run the light. Instead, they end up in a T-bone crash with another vehicle passing through legally.
  • Distracted driving has become common when it comes to the cause of a two-vehicle crash. The driver who is chatting on their cell phone, texting, fiddling with the radio station, or performing other activities that take their focus from the road can easily cause an accident.
  • Making an illegal U-turn can lead to a two-vehicle crash. Even though this can be a risky maneuver even when it’s legal, other motorists don’t expect someone to attempt a U-turn where it isn’t allowed.
  • Drunk drivers are a major reason for all varieties of traffic accidents. The drunk driver cannot focus on traffic, judge their distance from other vehicles, and can weave in and out of their lane.
  • Fatigued driving often occurs in mid-afternoon or late at night due to overwork, varying shift hours, and just staying up too late the night before. A fatigued driver is comparable to someone who is driving inebriated in their reactions, which can cause a two-vehicle crash.
  • Making a risky turn can lead to an accident. Turning left just as the light turns red can end up with a vehicle crashing into oncoming traffic. By making a risky right turn when other vehicles are blocking the view can lead to an accident with another car, pedestrian or bicyclist.
