Fatal Accidents Involving Out-of-State Drivers

Under the Code of Civil Procedure section 410.10, California courts have jurisdiction over drivers from out-of-state as long as they are not frequent visitors. Following an injury or fatality accident, our personal injury lawyers have extensive knowledge of California laws and are experienced in dealing with insurance companies. We have successfully handled many wrongful death cases over the years and offer a free consultation to review your case.

Advantages of Hiring a Lawyer Where the Accident Occurred

There are several reasons why hiring a lawyer where the accident occurred is advantageous when it comes to filing a wrongful death claim, including:

  • An outside lawyer would have to send investigators to the state to collect evidence to support the family’s wrongful death claim, which would involve travel expenses and take longer. An investigation by a legal firm outside the state would be more difficult due to its unfamiliarity with the area. Doing so is faster and easier because a local lawyer’s investigators are familiar with the area.
  • An outside lawyer would have to review California personal injury laws, which would be unnecessary with a local law firm.
  • A local lawyer would have dealt previously with state insurance companies to settle claims. They would also know the local judges and courts if the case has to go there for a fair settlement.
