Rollover Crash on SR 49 Claims Life of Driver
A Grass Valley man died in a rollover accident on October 7 when his SUV flipped. The fatal accident occurred along State Route 49 near Streeter Road around 8:00 p.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to the accident where they found the deceased driver, identified as a local resident, age 51.
CHP Investigating Fatal Rollover Accident to Determine Cause
The officers reported that the man was reckless driving and swerving in and out of the lanes before losing control of his SUV, which overturned several times. The driver was not using a seat restraint at the time of the fatal rollover accident and was ejected from the vehicle. Although the CHP is investigating the cause of the crash, alcohol consumption has not been ruled out as a factor.
Causes of a Rollover Accident Besides Driver Negligence
Besides driver negligence, there are other causes of a rollover accident. These include:
- Weather conditions: Icy or wet roads can make it difficult to control a vehicle, especially at high speeds. This can lead to a rollover accident.
- Poorly designed roads: Roads with sharp turns or curves can cause a rollover accident if a driver is not careful. In cases involving government negligence, the entity in charge may be held responsible. Because the deadline for filing a claim is six months, having help from an accident attorney may be useful.
- Defective tires: Tires that are bald, defective or have poor tread can cause a rollover accident if they lose traction on the road. If a defect is found that caused the accident, the manufacturer may be held liable by filing an auto product liability claim.
- Overloading the vehicle: If a vehicle is carrying too much weight, it can be more difficult to control and may tip over in a turn or on a slope.
If you have been involved in a rollover accident, it is important to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney who can help you understand your legal rights and options.
Ejection During a Rollover Accident
Ejection during a rollover accident is commonly fatal or results in traumatic injuries. Ejection is one of the leading causes of death in a rollover. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 10,000 people are killed each year in the United States due to rollover accidents. Of these fatalities, approximately 35 percent are attributed to occupants being ejected from the vehicle.
There are a number of factors that can contribute to an occupant being ejected during a rollover accident. These include not wearing a seatbelt, having weak or damaged doors and having windows that are not shatterproof.
