Rollover Accident Fatally Injures Merced Teen

What Happened?
A 19-year-old Merced man was driving his 1998 Ford Expedition SUV westbound along River Road in the vicinity of Sexton Road at approximately 4:00 pm. For unknown reasons, the Ford drifted off the roadway. The Ford became airborne and overturned several times into a vacant dirt field. The impact of the collision reportedly ejected the driver despite wearing his safety restraint belt.
Nature of Injuries
Immediate medical attention was required at the scene of the rollover accident. The man was, sadly, pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
Identity of Victim
The identity of the victim remains unknown due to a pending family notification.
What Caused the Accident?
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined due to an ongoing investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Typically, CHP Traffic Collision Reports are processed in two weeks from the date of the accident.
