Reported Drunk Driver Injures CHP Officer in Traffic Crash

CHP Officer Seriously Injured by Alleged Drunk Driver

An officer with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) suffered critical injuries while investigating an accident in Sacramento when he was struck by a drunk driver. The incident happened close to the Stockton Boulevard intersection with Florin Road around 12:30 a.m., where a fatal crash had occurred. Investigators into the collision think the driver of the vehicle that struck the officer was under the influence, and that person was placed under arrest at the accident scene.

CHP Officer Reported in Critical Condition

Life-saving measures were used by first responders on the officer, who was then transported to a hospital for further care and evaluation. The officer remains in critical condition at the hospital. The area around the collision involving the possible drunk driver was blocked while the investigation was conducted into how the accident happened.

Establishing Liability in an Accident Involving a Drunk Driver

Even though finding the person at fault in a drunk driving case may appear simple, it is often more complicated than you may think. You may be able to maximize your compensation by holding other parties responsible for the crash in addition to the driver.

If you hire a lawyer after a DUI accident, they can investigate thoroughly to determine who is at fault. Examples include:

  • Vehicle manufacturers: The crash might have been caused by faulty car parts or functions such as tires, brakes or the steering.
  • Alcohol server: It is possible for a business to be held accountable if it knowingly served alcohol to someone who was already intoxicated.
  • Roadway negligence: It is also possible for municipal negligence or insufficient road maintenance to contribute to the accident.

It is important to identify all parties who are responsible for your accident so that you can receive the maximum compensation. Our lawyers at AutoAccident.com have the tenacity and experience to do just that.
