Reese Road Intersection Crash Causes Injuries to Bicyclist

A bicyclist suffered injuries in an intersection crash with a Honda Civic in the Florin area of Sacramento County on July 19. The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. on southbound Reese Road just north of Gerber Road. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were at the scene of the collision, where they noted both the rider and vehicle were on the right-hand side of the roadway. The bicyclist had suffered injuries to their leg.

Investigation Being Conducted on Cause of Intersection Crash

It is unknown whether they received treatment at the scene or were transported to a hospital for additional care. An investigation is being conducted by the CHP traffic crash unit to find out how the collision occurred and to place fault.

Accidents Involving Bicycles and Negligent Drivers

Drivers often cause an intersection crash with bicyclists because bicycle riders are less visible. It is possible that you need compensation if you suffer an injury that requires a long recovery period. Driver negligence can lead to a number of accidents, including:

  • Distractions: Bicycle accidents are frequently caused by distracted driving. A driver who texts, talks on the phone, or diverts his or her attention can seriously injure a cyclist.
  • Drinking and driving: A drunk or drugged driver may be unable to judge distances, track their eyes, or display slowed reflexes. It is often impaired drivers who cause bicycling accidents.
  • Speed: Bicyclists are more likely to be involved in an intersection crash because speeding drivers require a longer stopping distance in an emergency situation. There is also a greater chance of fatalities and serious injuries in pedestrian or bicycle accidents caused by speeders.
  • Crosswalk accidents: Even with a green light, motorists should be careful and avoid colliding with bicyclists in crosswalks.
  • Running a red light: Bicycle accidents are often caused when drivers fail to stop at stop signs or traffic lights.
  • Ignoring the three-foot distance rule: Drivers must keep their vehicles at least three feet from any bicyclists.
  • Encroaching on the bicycle lane: Drivers often drift into the bike lane when making a right-hand turn. If they aren’t careful, they may strike a bicyclist who is using that lane.

Investigations of Bicycle Accidents

In the course of a thorough investigation by an injury lawyer, evidence may emerge that supports the client’s case for financial compensation. In the immediate aftermath of an accident, we dispatch investigators to interview witnesses and verify the police report is accurate. As well as traffic camera footage, investigators gather evidence regarding three-foot distance and other violations.

The information we gather helps our accident attorneys develop a strong case to support the compensation claims of our clients. You may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, wages because you were unable to work, and other losses.
