Run-Off-Road Vehicle on SR 299 Results in Fatality Accident
A fatality accident occurred west of Redding on October 1 when a vehicle went off the road. A possible traffic collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) by a passing trucker around 4:00 a.m. along State Route 299 and Slattery Pond Road. When officers arrived, they discovered that a Chevy Suburban had overturned into a rock quarry about 10 to 15 feet off the roadway.
County Coroner Called to Scene of Fatality
The officers reported the vehicle was cold to the touch and discovered a body, saying it had been there a while. The County Coroner was called to the scene to declare the individual at the site of the fatality accident deceased. All the wheels of the vehicle were broken, and the police said it appeared as though it had rolled several times.
Neglected Roadway Maintenance Can Cause a Run-Off-Road Accident
Running off the road is one of the most common types of car accidents. It can happen when a driver loses control of their vehicle or when they hit a patch of ice or water on the roadway. However, in many cases, these accidents are caused by negligent roadway maintenance.
Roadway maintenance is the responsibility of the government agency in charge of caring for the road. This includes repairing potholes, clearing debris and making sure that signage and markings are visible and up to date. Negligent roadway maintenance can lead to serious collisions, injuries and even a fatal accident. Because there is a six-month time limit in which an injured party can file a claim involving a government agency, an accident attorney may help meet deadlines and ensure the paperwork is correct.
Hit-and-Run Drivers Can Cause Another Vehicle to Exit the Road and Crash
There are many ways that a hit-and-run driver can cause another vehicle to exit the road and crash. One way is by crowding another driver. This can force other vehicles off the road and into oncoming traffic or into obstacles such as trees or guardrails. Another way is by cutting off other drivers, which causes the other person to attempt an emergency maneuver and lose control.
An Auto Defect Can Cause a Fatality Accident
In some cases, an auto defect can cause a car to leave the roadway and crash. This could be due to a problem with the tires, brakes or steering. If a car has an issue with any of these components, it may not be able to handle sudden turns or stop properly, which can lead to an accident. If a defect causes an injury or fatality accident, an auto products liability claim may be placed to recover damages.
