Second Fatal Pedestrian Accident Occurs on Highway 273

A fatal pedestrian accident reported in Redding on September 8 was the second incident in under 12 hours. The collision occurred on Highway 273 near Girvan Road around 6:15 a.m. Officers with the Redding Police Department said that this accident involved an Anderson driver, 25, who was going north on the highway when he saw the male pedestrian, 54, in dark clothing and in the left-turn lane.

The driver attempted to stop but collided with the pedestrian. The injured man was transported to Mercy Hospital with significant trauma. However, he died of his injuries. The man’s identity was not released until the County Coroner’s Office notified the family. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. The earlier fatal pedestrian accident in Redding occurred on Thursday near Highway 273 and Canyon Road around 8:20 p.m.

Your Right to File a Wrongful Death Claim

When a fatal pedestrian accident occurs because of the negligence of a motorist, the immediate family members, which include the spouse and children, have the right to file a wrongful death claim. Although their grief will not be eased by filing for wrongful death, it can help bring justice for the loss of their loved one and relieve the financial stress that families often face. Areas in which compensation can be recovered after a fatal pedestrian accident include the following:

  • The family can recover the funeral and burial expenses for their loved one.
  • They can recover the wages and benefits the loved one would have earned until retirement.
  • The surviving spouse may claim compensation for their lost consortium, moral support, and affection from their loved one.
  • The family’s children may claim the loss of love, nurturing, and parental care.

Seeking Advice From an Injury Attorney After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency basis. They also offer a free, no-obligation consultation. By calling, your family can get their case reviewed, ask any questions they have, and the lawyer will tell them about options to recover damages. When they decide on a lawyer to take their case, they owe nothing unless the case reaches a successful conclusion.
