Redding Double Fatality Highway Accident

During the evening of Monday, November 11, 2019, a double-fatality highway accident took place in Redding. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedents as 30-year-old Cottonwood man Ryan Lee Dearman and 27-year-old Redding man Travis Lee Brundage. The two men were reportedly the only occupants of the car involved in this single-vehicle collision. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Travis Lee and Ryan Lee’s family to help cover their funeral expenses.

Crash Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) is handling the ongoing investigation into this tragic accident. Police indicated that the crash happened at about 5:00 p.m. on Highway 44 close to the off-ramp from Victor Avenue in Redding. Before the accident took place, CHP says that they received calls reporting a speeding vehicle. A short time after, the vehicle, identified as a gray 2001 Corvette, reportedly struck a guardrail and careened into a nearby embankment. The force of the collision ejected both Brundage and Dearman out of the vehicle’s windows.

When emergency responders reached the collision scene, they discovered that both men had sustained critical injuries during the crash. Sadly, officials declared both Brundage and Dearman deceased at the crash site.

Investigation

As the investigation into the collision continues, CHP has asked for accident witnesses to report what they saw. Callers have been asked to use the non-emergency number for CHP’s local office, (530) 224-0500.

Accidents like this one can be caused by a variety of factors, and it isn’t always easy to tell what really caused the crash. Furthermore, when involved parties aren’t able to offer testimony to investigators, it becomes even more difficult to get a clear picture of what took place. For this reason, it’s common that crucial collision factors such as defective car parts or hazards in the road go unnoticed. To prevent this, it’s important to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer who can conduct their own investigation into the accident with the rights of the decedent and their family in mind.

The Effects of Fatal Accidents

Learning that your loved one lost their life in a car crash can be devastating. Many people feel overwhelmed by complex emotions and have a hard time carrying on with their normal life after suffering such a traumatic loss. It’s important for families to have the space, time, and support they need to process their emotions after deadly accidents. However, it can be difficult to focus on healing if you are facing serious financial issues related to the accident.

In many cases, losing a family member also means losing an important source of income and services in your household. The value that our loved ones provide through childcare, cleaning, home maintenance, and other common tasks is huge and difficult to compensate for. Additionally, families often need to worry about medical expenses as well as funeral costs in addition to paying their regular bills.

Getting Help

Thankfully, grieving families are often able to get the help they need by filing a wrongful death claim and obtaining compensation for their losses. Payments obtained through these claims can cover a wide range of damages, including both personal and financial losses. To learn about how you can get the compensation you and your loved ones deserve, it’s best to speak personally to an experienced Redding wrongful death lawyer as soon as you are able to.
