Fiery Redding Car Crash Injures Driver

On Saturday, November 21, 2020, one person was hospitalized following a Redding car crash. Local officials reported that the crash caused a vegetation fire that spread to the nearby grass but was extinguished before causing any serious damage to the surrounding area. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident was a solo-vehicle collision and remains under official investigation.

Collision Details

The crash occurred during midday on the onramp to southbound Highway Interstate 5 from S Bonnyview Road. Information about what happened prior to the crash has not been reported so far. CHP indicated that a silver-colored sedan was driving on the on-ramp when, for unknown reasons, it veered off-road. The sedan overturned, rolling partially before striking a nearby tree with its roof and coming to a rest on the passenger side. As a result of the collision, the car caught fire. Photos of the accident scene show the vehicle sustained major damage.

Response

Multiple agencies assisted with accident response, including CHP and the Redding Fire Department. Responders reaching the collision site discovered that the driver had been able to extricate themselves from the vehicle. However, medical officials determined that the driver had sustained non-life-threatening injuries and had them driven by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment and screening for more serious trauma.

Firefighters at the scene rushed to put out the fire and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Investigation of Redding Car Crash

As officers continue to investigate possible collision factors, no likely causes have been reported at this time. With collisions involving only a single vehicle, there may still be a number of causal factors, many of which aren’t driver-related. Non-driver accident causes include malfunctioning car parts and roads with major pavement defects.

Rollovers and Liability

Collisions that involve rollovers are likely to leave drivers with “roof crush injuries.” These injuries are especially likely to occur when vehicle roofs are poorly designed or constructed. Because auto manufacturers are expected to guarantee the safety of their products, these companies often share liability for the accident in cases involving roof crush injuries. This means that the company may be financially responsible for damages that vehicle occupants suffer.

However, to hold these companies accountable, you need to be able to prove that your vehicle had a weak roof. For this reason, it’s vital to preserve your wrecked vehicle as evidence following the accident.
