Red Bluff Man Identified After Fatal Crash
On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, officials of the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department released the identity of a man who tragically passed away about a week earlier due to injuries he suffered in a local car accident. The decedent was identified as Michael Lutz, a 59-year-old Red Bluff man. Police have stated that the crash took place within Red Bluff city limits and only involved a single vehicle. An official investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Crash Information
The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) reported that the accident happened on Friday, September 20, 2019. Lutz had reportedly been driving northbound on South Main Street toward Sister Mary Columba Drive when his vehicle veered to the left for unknown reasons. After veering, the vehicle crossed over the median of the road and traveled through oncoming lanes before striking a roadside embankment.
First responders were sent out to the accident location immediately. When they arrived, emergency personnel found that Lutz had suffered severe trauma and immediately began to administer life-saving aid. Lutz was extricated from his wrecked vehicle and given medical treatment, including CPR. Tragically, medics could not save his life, and Lutz was pronounced deceased on-site.
Agencies that assisted in accident response included RBPD, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Red Bluff Fire Department, and the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department.
