Accident Involving Recreational Vehicle Fatality Occurs on S.R. 12

A fatality was reported on July 24 when a recreational vehicle crashed east of Rio Linda. The collision occurred along westbound State Route 12 just west of Jackson Slough Road shortly after 8:00 a.m. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), as well as Rio Vista police, arrived at the collision scene, which partially blocked the westbound lanes.

Driver Dies in Single-Vehicle RV Accident

A tow truck was required to remove the diesel pusher RV. The RV driver died in the collision and was pronounced deceased by the County Coroner upon their arrival. Investigators with the CHP traffic collision unit are working on determining the cause of the fatal accident.

Errors That Lead to a Recreational Vehicle Accident

Often, recreational vehicle collisions result from driver error, as is the case with other traffic accidents, or because of an outside influence. RV accidents occur for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Inexperience with driving a large vehicle
  • Speed
  • Poorly balanced load
  • Overweight load
  • Blind spots
  • Distractions
  • Mechanical defects
  • Poorly maintained roadways

Accidents Involving Recreational Vehicles

Suppose a couple is driving their car to a national park in their RV. They are cautious that the vehicle isn’t overloaded by checking the weight and the load is evenly distributed. Up until they reach the top of a steep hill, everything goes smoothly.

As the vehicle goes up the hill, the brakes suddenly give way because they are defective. The RV starts to roll backward, colliding with a car traveling up the hill behind it. Any accident injuries or fatalities would be the responsibility of the manufacturer of the faulty brakes.

Examining the Vehicle

Because of the number of ways in which a recreational vehicle fatality accident can occur, it is important to retain it, so it can be examined for defects. If a defect or other type of negligence was the cause other than driver error, the family may file a wrongful death claim to recover compensation.

The Benefits of Hiring an Attorney

A recreational vehicle is a great way to spend time with your family. In spite of this, accidents do happen. We dispatch our experienced investigation team to the accident site immediately after our firm is consulted. In order to establish a link between the RV accident and the potential negligence that led to the crash, they search for evidence at the scene.

In some cases, road marks indicate that the vehicle failed to stop, and accident reconstruction techniques can reveal the cause of the accident. Obtaining video footage from traffic surveillance cameras and nearby businesses is another method of capturing evidence about the accident. The team interviews witnesses who saw the accident happen. Also, we review the police report for errors and check for defects associated with RVs.

In order to build a strong case against the defendant, our legal team uses the gathered information.
