Accident on Sunrise Boulevard Results in a Fatality and Serious Injury

A single-vehicle crash in Rancho Cordova on June 18 killed the driver and injured a passenger. The accident happened sometime before 2:00 a.m. on Sunrise Boulevard, southbound, close to Gold Country Boulevard. Officers with the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the accident scene.

Single-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation to Determine Why it Happened

A news release by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that when officers arrived, they discovered the car that struck the tree had sustained catastrophic damage. Both the driver and her male passenger received injuries that were life-threatening in the collision and were taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the vehicle died, however, the passenger should recover. The accident is being investigated by local authorities to determine how the single-vehicle crash occurred.

Reasons for a Single-Vehicle Crash

Accidents involving one vehicle are among the most common of all traffic collisions. Surprisingly enough, they often occur along a straight stretch of roadway ordinarily traveled by the motorist. Although negligence is the usual cause of these types of crashes, other factors may lead to an accident, such as:

Other factors that can lead to a single-vehicle crash include the following:

  • Defective auto parts: A defect in the tires, brakes, accelerator or steering can cause a single-vehicle crash. This is one of the reasons it is important to keep a vehicle following an injury or fatality collision. Engineers can examine the vehicle to determine if a defect was the cause of the accident. In this way, the injured party or family of the deceased can place a product liability claim against the manufacturer and others in the production line.
  • Negligence by the government entity in charge of road maintenance: If the roadway contains potholes and other roadway problems, overgrown shrubbery, poor lighting, malfunctioning traffic lights or missing/misplaced signs, it can lead to a single-vehicle crash. In these instances, the government entity in charge of maintenance may be held responsible for any injuries or fatalities as a result. Because the time limit for filing against a government entity is six months, getting assistance from an injury lawyer may be helpful. The lawyer can ensure that the paperwork is correct and filed before the statute of limitations is reached.
