Put the Fairfield Tomato Festival on Calendar!

Northern California has a perfect climate for growing tomatoes – it is often referred to as a Mediterranean climate. There are so many different varieties and a ton of information online about how to grow tomatoes and have them flourish in our region. Soon, heirlooms, Early Girls, Brandywines and other varieties will be overflowing at our area farmer’s markets. In fact, the state of California produces over 90% of this country’s tomato production, and a significant percentage of tomatoes sold worldwide!
So it makes perfect sense that Northern California would host the Tomato Festival to celebrate this bumper crop. For 2016, Fairfield hosts its annual Tomato Festival on August 20th and 21st. This fun, family-friendly event is hosted by Fairfield Suisun Chamber of Commerce and tickets are already on sale, so don’t delay!
Fairfield weather in August is consistently warm and sunny (that Mediterranean climate!) so the conditions are likely to be perfect. Be sure to wear cool clothing and hydrate as the sun is sure to be shining and the mercury rising.

The festival will also feature a number of food vendors – highlighting use of the tomato, of course – along with beer, wine and other refreshments. Additionally, guest can enjoy carnival rides, a classic car show and plenty of live music and entertainment!
