Pseudotumor Cerebri in an Auto Accident

A Review: Pseudotumor Cerebri in an Auto Accident
Pseudotumor Cerebri is a relatively common neurologic complaint; however, it does not often present following a traumatic event. Recently, a team of medical professionals published a case report of a young woman who developed this issue following a car accident. While driving down the road, she got involved in a head-on collision. Her head struck the steering wheel, and her airbag deployed. She received a thorough medical evaluation and was discharged in stable condition. Over the next few days, she developed difficulty with her vision. This is often the first sign of pseudotumor cerebri. She returned to her doctor where her sight was evaluated. After this, her intracerebral pressure was measured. This was found to be elevated. She was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri and placed on medications. Fortunately, she made a full recovery; however, if not diagnosed quickly, this medical condition could have serious consequences. Elevated intracranial pressure can lead to brain damage and, possibly, a herniation. It is essential for everyone to know that vision changes after an auto accident can be a severe problem.
