Police Continue Ukiah Pedestrian Injury Investigation

I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah car accident attorney. As of February 13, 2018, local news sources have reported that officers of the Ukiah Police Department (UPD) are still actively investigating a pedestrian/vehicle collision involving severe injuries that occurred on Friday, February 9, 2018.

Accident Information

According to authorities, a pedestrian was struck by an SUV at approximately 5:00 p.m. about one block to the north of the Mendocino County Library in Ukiah’s main branch building located at North State Street and East Perkins Street. Reports indicate that a 41-year-old woman had been walking on the downtown roadway when she was struck by a 2010 Infiniti-brand SUV being driven by a 56-year-old woman from Ukiah who stayed at the scene of the accident and waited for emergency response officials to arrive.

Further details about how the collision specifically occurred have not yet been made available as the investigation continues.

Response

Officials from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority (UVFA) responded to the accident and have reported that they found the pedestrian lying on the pavement near the rear of the vehicle. The pedestrian was reportedly unconscious at the time of response.

UVFA responders administered emergency care to the pedestrian at the scene of the accident before transporting her to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center with what were described as “moderate to major injuries to the face and arm.” After less than an hour at the local hospital, the woman was flown to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Responding officials also indicated that the driver was distraught after striking the pedestrian and officers reportedly consoled her while accident response was underway.

Investigation

Investigation details including the identities of the women involved in the accident are as-of-yet unreported. However, accident factors under investigation by local authorities include common factors like pedestrian right-of-way violations, driving at dangerous speeds, pedestrian conspicuity, faulty automobile parts, defects in the roadway, and more.

Witnesses or anybody with information about the accident can call the UPD Traffic Division at (707) 463-4660 in order to aid officers with their investigation.
