PGE Worker Dies in Humboldt County Crash

Authorities of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a Humboldt County Crash fatally injured a PGE worker on Friday, October 25, 2019. The accident reportedly only involved one vehicle and did not injure any other individuals. The decedent has been identified as a resident of the state of Mississipi. However, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department officials have not yet released his full name or age. The collision reportedly remains under investigation by CHP.

Crash Information

The accident reportedly took place at about 5:30 p.m. on Alderpoint Road in a rural area of southern Humboldt County. The Mississipi man had been driving east in a Freightliner work truck when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. For reasons that police say they do not currently understand, the truck veered to the right and exited the roadway, eventually overturning. While the vehicle was rolling, the driver was ejected. According to information from CHP, the accident took place in clear, dry conditions well before sunset.

When response officials arrived at the scene of the accident, they found that the driver had sustained critical trauma. Sadly, he lost his life on-site. PG&E indicated that the man had been part of a team of employees dispatched to the region in order to deal with various power shutdowns prompted by strong wind conditions.

Investigation

As investigators look into this accident, CHP has not yet stated what factors they suspect were involved. Fatal collisions like this one can be difficult to investigate for authorities because the driver is not able to provide testimony about what happened. For this reason, important factors such as faulty or unsafe vehicle parts, roadway hazards, or phantom drivers often go unnoticed during official investigations. Because of this, it is important to contact an attorney who can investigate the accident themselves with the rights of the decedent and their family in mind.

Rollover Accidents

When a vehicle overturns, there is a much higher probability that the accident will involve serious or fatal injuries. One of the main reasons that these accidents are dangerous is that vehicle roofs are often not strong enough to keep occupants safe from harm. Weak roof materials or poor safety design can leave people with what are known as “roof crush injuries.” In these cases, the manufacturer of the vehicle is often considered a negligent party and can be held financially liable for damages.

Taking Quick Action

Families deserve to have time to process their grief after enduring a tragic event such as the loss of a loved one. However, negligent parties and their insurers almost always begin building a legal defense immediately. Having legal representation early on in a wrongful death case can be a critical factor in claiming the compensation you and your family deserve for the losses you’ve suffered. Additionally, knowing that your case is being handled by a professional can allow you to focus on spending time with the people you love and recovering emotionally.
