Tracking a Driver Who Fled an Accident Scene

It is no surprise that Sacramento sees its fair share of accidents resulting from drivers fleeing the scene after committing a crime. Over the years, our law firm has successfully located several hit-and-run drivers. Holding these drivers accountable for their actions is crucial for our client’s recovery of compensation. As part of our law firm’s commitment to this mission, we have access to many resources. Here is a breakdown of the areas we investigate when handling accidents:

  • Vehicle Examination: In Sacramento accidents involving fleeing drivers, our investigators thoroughly examine the vehicle for metal and paint fragments. Each of these objects can provide valuable clues for identifying the manufacturer, model, and make of the vehicle involved.
  • Witness Interviews: In hit-and-run accident cases, it’s often possible to identify the driver or vehicle through witness interviews.
  • Police Report Review: We carefully review the report to ensure its accuracy and completeness. Any report errors could hinder the client’s ability to file a compensation claim.
  • Surveillance Footage and Accident Reconstruction: Identifying the hit-and-run vehicle can involve analyzing surveillance videos and employing accident reconstruction techniques. We can subpoena it for further investigation if surveillance footage is available to capture the accident.
  • Building a Strong Case: Our attorneys build a compelling case during negotiation or litigation based on the gathered evidence.

Our dedication to thorough investigation and legal expertise ensures our clients have the best possible chance of obtaining the compensation they deserve in hit-and-run accident cases.

Compensation for Fleeing Driver Accidents

In the event that the fleeing motorist and their vehicle are identified, you can pursue financial compensation for the injuries caused by the driver. However, if you have been injured by a driver who fled the scene, you may encounter challenges when attempting to file a lawsuit against them, even if they are located. This is primarily because the negligent party may not possess insurance or carry sufficient coverage. In such situations, our clients can utilize uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to address these circumstances.

Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Individuals purchasing auto insurance policies in California can include uninsured/underinsured driver coverage. Given the significant number of drivers in the state who lack adequate coverage to compensate for injuries, this option is frequently chosen by many. This additional policy covers injuries sustained while walking, bicycling, or driving. Moreover, if the injured individual’s family already has insurance, it can provide supplementary coverage. Importantly, including this coverage does not result in any changes to the rates of the policy.
