Pedestrian Fatality Occurs Along Roseville Road in Sacramento

A car accident on September 20 resulted in a pedestrian fatality as the walker was struck by two separate vehicles along Roseville Road in Sacramento. The accident happened near Connie Drive in the Hagginwood area just before 8:00 in the evening, according to a representative of the Sacramento Police Department. A pickup that was driving west along Roseville reportedly struck the pedestrian, who was in the road, which caused the walker to land in the east lane, where another vehicle struck him. The pedestrian’s identity has not yet been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Further Information About the Accident

The pickup driver remained at the scene of the pedestrian fatality, and according to police, was not under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene, stopping at the Marconi-Arcade rail station, where that person got out of the vehicle and ran away on foot. Upon arrival by the police, the pedestrian was discovered to have suffered major injuries. He was declared dead by attending paramedics. Roseville Road and Connie Drive was the location of a previous pedestrian fatality on May 5, 2016.

Dealing With Grief

Losing a loved one can be a devastating experience and even more so when that person was taken from you unexpectedly. Many people are left confused and forget to eat or even sleep, their grief is so overwhelming. A time like this is when family members need to band together and help each other cope. Talking to each other about their loved one and the good times they shared can be helpful in bringing some closure. There are many books and videos that can help a grieving person deal with their loss as well as local support groups.

Investigating a Wrongful Death

If negligence was the cause of a pedestrian fatality, an experienced lawyer can help a family to obtain fair compensation for that loss by conducting an investigation to gather evidence. To place a claim, it must be proved that the negligent person owed a duty of care to the person who died and that negligence was the reason for the death. It must also be shown that the family sustained a loss financially. There are a number of ways this can be proven from the loss of future income and inheritance to how the person helped around the house and with the children.

Gathering Evidence After a Pedestrian Fatality

We send investigators to the site of the accident, check the police report for mistakes and interview witnesses. Additional information can be gained by examining the roadway itself, performing crash reconstruction and checking video footage from traffic cameras or nearby businesses. By building strong evidence in a case, it helps the family recover needed damages. The information can be used either when negotiating with the insurance company or to prepare a strong case to present in civil court.

Paying for Damages Caused by a Hit and Run Driver

You might wonder who pays for the damages an injured pedestrian suffers if the driver flees and cannot be located. One of the best ways is to use your car’s uninsured motorist coverage. Most California drivers carry this extra insurance due to the number of motorists in the state who lack car insurance. If your policy includes uninsured motorist protection, it also covers you if you are out biking or walking. In addition, if someone else who lives with you has car insurance that includes uninsured motorist protection, you can use their coverage to pay for the damages you incur. In such cases, the insurance rate will not be increased.
