Toddler Died in Pedestrian Accident Near Napa

Toddler Hit By Pickup Truck in Sonoma County
Tragically, a 3-year-old boy passed away as a result of serious injuries he suffered after being struck and killed by a pickup truck.
What Happened?
Authorities indicated the boy fell from his stroller in a crosswalk located in El Verano which is in Sonoma County. The crash occurred in an unincorporated community approximately 15 miles west of the city of Napa.
The little boy fell out of the stroller he was riding in while a group of pedestrians was crossing the street on Sunday, July 10, 2016.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the child suffered major injuries after being struck by the pickup truck.
He was airlifted to a hospital in Napa. Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Was Drugs or Alcohol Involved?
It does not look like drugs or alcohol was involved. The man driving the pickup truck that struck the little boy has been cooperating with authorities. The man was given a field sobriety test. An initial determination suggested that no alcohol or drug impairment appeared to be a factor in the crash.

The cause of the pedestrian fatality is under investigation. It usually takes several days for the investigating agency to prepare a report of their findings and release a traffic collision report. - In 2013, alcohol impairment for the pedestrian and/or driver was reported in 49 percent of all pedestrian fatality crashes.
- Ninety-two percent of the pedestrians who were fatally injured died in crashes involving a single motor vehicle.
- One-fifth of the pedestrians fatally injured in 2013 were struck by motorists who fled the scene (hit and run crashes).
