Investigators Looking for Hit and Run Driver in Sacramento

A pedestrian fatality was reported in Sacramento on February 13 after a person was struck by a vehicle along Florin Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the body was discovered by a passerby close to Kara Drive at about 2:00 in the morning. The pedestrian was pronounced dead by paramedics when they arrived at the scene. Any people with information about the accident are asked to contact the CHP in South Sacramento. The pedestrian was described as male; however, the identity of the person who died will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.

Further Details on the Pedestrian Fatality

Police have no description of the vehicle that struck the man but are actively looking for information that could provide answers. After gathering evidence left behind at the scene of the pedestrian fatality accident, it is thought the driver might have been in a 2002 BMW M3. Investigators believe that the vehicle that struck the pedestrian will exhibit moderate or major damage to the passenger side and right front. There are a number of strip malls in this area of Florin Road, and police reported that they would be going to nearby businesses to see if security cameras captured the accident on video.

Losing a Loved One in a Wrongful Death

It is always difficult to lose a member of the family but especially hard when that person is snatched away because of the negligent actions of another individual or entity. It is important that other relatives and friends be supportive when the family is overwhelmed with grief. Some ways they can do that are:

  • Patiently listen to them talk about their loved one and the accident that took them away. Talking helps someone who is grieving lessen the pain.
  • Be supportive because people who are grieving often set aside normal tasks. Anticipate what the family needs and tell them you will be by at a certain time to walk the dog, do yard work, or carry out the trash.
  • Offer to accompany the person to make the final arrangements for their loved one. This can be a difficult time to deal with, and going alone would make it even harder.
  • Be there for the family afterward. There are often people around during the days surrounding the funeral service. However, it is just as important to let the grieving family members know you are there for them afterward. Phone, visit, and continue to offer help for as long as they need it.

Coverage for an Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

If it isn’t possible for the hit and run driver to be located, the family has the option of using their insurance coverage for uninsured motorists. This policy will pay the expenses associated with the death of their loved one. All California motorists are offered uninsured/underinsured insurance, however, it is optional. If the deceased person did not carry uninsured motorist coverage, another family member living in the household may use theirs. Making use of an uninsured policy does not affect the rates, which will stay the same.

How a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help

My law firm has a good track record of hunting down hit and run drivers, and if the at-fault party cannot be found, we may be able to help the family obtain compensation in other ways. Our investigators immediately head to the site of the pedestrian fatality accident to search for evidence, including reviewing the report by the police for mistakes and talking to all the witnesses. Afterward, they perform crash reconstruction and check nearby businesses and traffic cams for video footage. They also look for signs of tire marks, debris left by the fleeing vehicle, and other information that may help locate the guilty party. Once the information is all gathered, our lawyers take over to build a strong case to support your claim. It can be used in dealing with the insurers on your behalf or in preparing a case to present in civil court.
