Pedestrian Accident Fatally Injures Man Near Fresno

A pedestrian was attempting to cross a highway on the night of Sunday, September 17, 2017. The pedestrian was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately, the injured pedestrian passed away at the scene.

What Happened?

A 26-year-old man was attempting to cross Highway 180 from the center median in the vicinity of the Highway 41 off-ramp at approximately 8:50 pm. A white Lexus was approaching in the same direction and was unable to avoid the man. The impact caused the Lexus to veer to the right, drove up a hill and overturned.

Was Anybody Injured?

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the pedestrian accident. Upon evaluation, they determined that the three occupants of the Lexus received minor injuries from the collision. It is not yet known whether they were hospitalized for their injuries. The pedestrian, sadly, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The pedestrian was later identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as 26-year-old Michael Marozik from Fresno.

We would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Marozik who passed away in this tragic accident.

What Caused the Pedestrian Accident?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is handling the pedestrian accident investigation. A Traffic Collision Report generally takes one to two weeks from the date of an accident to be processed. However, authorities do not believe speeding or alcohol to be factors in the collision. It is important to note that not all traffic reports are entirely accurate. If a party has suffered traumatic or even fatal injuries in a Fresno pedestrian accident, it is vital to contact a Fresno car accident lawyer. An experienced attorney can investigate the scene of the collision and examine the sequence of events leading up to the accident to determine liability.

Accidents in Fresno

According to the Fresno Police Department, there have been more than 50 fatalities involving bicyclists and pedestrians from 2013 to 2015. The department is now focused on studying the factors causing such accidents. Authorities have pinpointed the locations where these collisions have taken place over the past three years. The department will be increasing enforcement operations to ensure the safety of the roads for all commuters. Officials urge motorists to give themselves more time when leaving home and to be aware of their surroundings while driving.
