Elderly Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident Near Merced
An elderly woman was taking a walk around town in Merced on the evening of Saturday, December 16, 2017. This would, sadly, be the last walk the elderly woman would take due to an unforeseen pedestrian accident.
We extend our sincerest thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Ms. Ziccone who passed away in this tragic accident.
A Merced man was driving his Toyota Highlander northbound along Parsons Avenue at approximately 8:45 pm. At the same time, an elderly woman was walking along Parsons Avenue and allegedly entered the roadway for an unknown reason. The driver of the Toyota claimed that he was unable to avoid the pedestrian in his path, resulting in the collision.
Nature of Injuries
Emergency responders were called to the scene to assist the injured pedestrian. Upon arrival, a medical evaluation was conducted on the elderly woman. The evaluation determined that she had suffered significant harm from the collision. She was immediately transported to the Mercy Medical Center for injury treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away during hospitalization due to the severe nature of her injuries.
Identity of Victim
The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of the pedestrian accident as 69-year-old Sharon Ziccone. Officials have not yet disclosed the city of her residence.
Accident Investigation
A cause of the accident has not yet been decided by the Merced Police Department due to the pending investigation. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
