Details on the Crash in Pleasanton That Killed a Passenger

A preliminary report revealed that a Mercedes-Benz was traveling on northbound I-680 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle allegedly veered to the right and struck the cement K-rail. This caused the vehicle to overturn at least twice, CHP traffic officers said.

A male passenger in the Mercedes-Benz was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the crash site. Officials have recently identified the deceased as Jamari Ross, a San Lorenzo resident.

The driver, a woman from Stockton, sustained injuries described as minor, according to officials. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI but was later released, authorities said. Additional information on the fatal single-vehicle accident on Interstate 680 in Pleasanton was not immediately available.

What Surviving Family Members Should Know About Fatal Car Accident Cases

When an individual suffers fatal injuries in an accident through the negligence of another party or entity, a civil case may be brought against the at-fault party to compensate surviving family members. A wrongful death claim generally accounts for the full value of the decedent’s life. This is measured by factors such as age, health, occupation, education, life expectancy, and financial contribution to the family. The purpose of this is to quantify the economic and non-economic damages suffered by survivors and to make them whole again. In the case of a fatal car accident, a claim is usually brought against the negligent driver and their insurance company.

While no amount of money can undo the pain of losing a close relative, compensation recovered through this type of civil case may help provide surviving family members with a more secure future. This may help cover funeral service costs, medical bills, and loss of financial contributions to the household like benefits, health insurance, and future earnings. It may also account for the mental anguish and loss of protection, care, and protection that the family has experienced because of the devastating and untimely death.

The statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death lawsuit is two years from the date of loss per California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1. There may be exceptions to this two-year deadline. Therefore, it is best to consult with a Pleasanton wrongful death lawyer as early in the process as possible. That is because evidence that is necessary to prove the case may be lost or destroyed over time. Without evidence, it may be challenging to prove that the loss of life and damages that occurred from the accident was caused by the other side’s negligence.
