Importance of Hiring a Lawyer After a Car Accident

After a DUI crash has resulted in traumatic injuries and losses, it can help to have an experienced Stockton car accident lawyer help you seek the financial compensation you need by negotiating a fair settlement agreement with the insurance company or taking the case to court, if necessary. Injured parties may be entitled to economic and non-economic damages, such as medical bills, wage loss, pain and suffering, and more. In addition to these damages, punitive damages may also be sought from the at-fault party. Keep in mind that punitive damages are separate from non-economic and economic damages and serve the sole purpose of punishing the negligent party for their egregious actions. These may be sought in rare cases like excessive speeding or drunk driving.

The amount of financial recovery will depend on the severity of accident-related injuries, the extent of resulting losses, and other factors. An experienced accident attorney may determine an injured party’s eligibility for compensation and evaluate potential sources of financial recovery in their situation, such as uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This may be utilized in personal injury cases where it has been proven that the at-fault party has little to no liability insurance. Do not agree to a recorded statement or a settlement agreement with the insurer until you have consulted a skilled injury lawyer. Unlike the insurance company, your attorney will have your best interests at heart and protect you from the various tactics they may utilize to protect their profit margins.
