Trapped in Vehicle After Eureka Crash

One person was left trapped in their vehicle after a Eureka crash that took place on Friday, April 3, 2020. According to officers of the Eureka Police Department (EPD), the crash happened in the late morning in the central area of the city and involved two vehicles. One person suffered injuries during the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital for care. The cause of the crash remains under EPD investigation at this time.

Crash Information

The collision took place at around 11:05 a.m. at the intersection of Henderson and E Streets outside of the local Ace Hardware. According to reports, the incident involved a grey Ford pickup truck as well as a dark green Saturn station wagon.

While details about the events leading up to the accident have not been reported, photos taken at the collision scene show the Saturn collided head-on with the corner of the hardware store, causing major damages to the vehicle. Photos also show minor damage to the front end of the pickup truck.

Response

According to reports, Battalion Chief 8102, Engine 8115, Engine 8113, and Community Risk Reduction Specialist 8108 from the Humboldt Bay Fire Authority, as well as officers from EPD and staff of City Ambulance, responded to the accident.

Responders arriving at the scene discovered the driver of the Saturn was trapped inside of their wrecked vehicle. Fire personnel used specialized machinery in order to extricate the trapped individual. After extrication, the individual was placed on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital. Officials indicated that the individual’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Officers Warn Drivers About Intersections

Humboldt Bay Fire released a statement following the collision reminding the public that, despite a decrease of vehicles on the road overall, drivers should always practice defensive driving techniques and scan ahead of their vehicle before entering an intersection.

Intersections can be dangerous for multiple reasons. In some cases, a particular intersection is simply in an area with high traffic, increasing the number of opportunities for a crash to occur. However, in other cases, there are issues with the intersection itself, such as malfunctioning signals or missing signage. Intersections may also be poorly designed, leaving drivers confused or without proper visibility of the road. In these cases, the government responsible for maintaining the road may be considered an at-fault party to the collision.

Contacting an Attorney

Suffering a car accident injury can be serious, even if the injury isn’t. Being hurt during a crash often leaves people unable to work, resulting in a loss of income. Furthermore, recovering can be expensive as many crash survivors need to pay for hospital stays, medications, physical therapy, and more. The best way to make sure you can afford to recover your health is to get in touch with an experienced Eureka personal injury lawyer about filing a personal injury claim.
