Accident on Highway 99 in Natomas Causes Multiple Injuries

A single-vehicle crash occurred along Highway 99 in Natomas on June 13 that caused multiple injuries. The accident happened south of Elkhorn Boulevard at about 2:21 in the morning. A dispatch was received by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that a car had spun out and rushed to the scene. However, because the dispatch was incorrect, both the CHP and emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department had problems locating the accident.

At Least Two People Injured in Crash

When they arrived at the single-vehicle crash site, a critically injured individual was found near the vehicle. Paramedics worked to save the life of this individual. A minimum of two patients were taken to nearby hospitals for additional treatment and diagnosis. One patient was reported as being in critical condition. The condition of the other patient is unknown. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how it happened.

Causes of a Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle crash can be caused by a number of factors outside of driver negligence. Some of the reasons these types of accidents occur are:

  • Government negligence: The government entity in charge of maintenance has been lax, or the road design lends itself to accidents. When a malfunctioning traffic light, poor lighting, bad design or other factors lead to a single-vehicle crash, the government entity can be held liable. However, because the timeline for filing against a government entity is much different than other types of personal injuries, enlisting the help of an experienced car accident lawyer in Natomas is important.
  • Hit and run drivers: A fleeing driver can cause a collision that appears to be a single-vehicle crash. Evidence collected at the scene can show the presence of another vehicle.
  • Aggressive drivers: An aggressive driver exhibits a lack of care for other motorists and may cut in and out of lanes, tailgate, speed, and act in other ways that are reckless. These drivers may also flee the scene after causing a single-vehicle crash.
  • Mechanical failure: A problem with the accelerator, brakes or steering can suddenly cause an accident that only involves one vehicle. After examination of the vehicle shows a mechanical defect, the manufacturer and others can be held liable in a product liability lawsuit.

Accident Investigations

The prompt collection of evidence is important to support a compensation claim. This is why our investigators do their best to gather it in a number of ways. Some parts of the investigation process include:

  • Investigators look for errors in the police report and speak to the witnesses to understand what they saw and that corroborates the client’s statement.
  • Forensic evidence is gathered by performing accident reconstruction, which can illustrate negligence by the at-fault driver as well as show the positioning of the vehicles before, during and after the crash.
  • Checking for cameras at nearby businesses and mounted on poles by the city can often capture a single-vehicle accident on video. This type of evidence is used in court and also in insurance negotiations.
  • They look for signs of government negligence that can include poor lighting in the area, debris in the roadway or potholes. Poor maintenance can cause or contribute to a single-vehicle crash.

The evidence is assembled by our lawyers into a strong compensation case that benefits the client. They use it in either preparing a court case when necessary or in handling negotiations for the client with the insurance provider.
